During a treatment of Emsculpt Neo, an applicator is placed over the treated area that emits both HIFEM+ (High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) and RF (Radiofrequency) energies.
The HIFEM+ technology targets the muscles, causing them to undergo supramaximal contractions, meaning the muscle is contracting at its full potential.
Simultaneously, the Radiofrequency energies heat subcutaneous fat and visceral fat, causing the fat cells of the treated area to reach temperatures that cause apoptosis, permanently damaging/killing fat cells in the process. This process only affects the fat cells in the targeted area, regular cells are unaffected.
The HIFEM technology results in muscle hypertrophy and hyperplasia, increasing muscle growth and strength. Radiofrequency causes apoptosis (cell death) and these damaged fat cells are slowly removed by the lymphatic system.
While Emsculpt uses HIFEM+ technology to build muscle, Emsculpt Neo combines HIFEM+ technology with radiofrequency to simultaneously eliminate fat whilst building/toning muscle.
Due to Emsculpt Neo being a combination of radiofrequency and HIFEM+ technology, the muscles are heated before being contracted. This helps to prepare the muscle for treatment but also assists with recovery post treatment. The different cycle patterns programmed into the machine ensures lactic acid is drained away from the treatment site.
Before your Emsculpt Neo treatment it is advised that you are well-hydrated. All metallic objects are to be removed, including piercings and metal in clothing.
The area to be treated will be wiped with alcohol before the application of the applicator over the area to be treated. The applicator must be in contact with the skin at all times throughout the treatment.
Within minutes, heat from the radiofrequency can be felt and is heating the muscle and fat cells in the subcutaneous and visceral fat causing the cells to reach apoptosis (cell death). The area will feel like it is being gently heated and should not be discomforting or painful.
Your Clinician will adjust the amount of HIFEM+ intensity based on your comfort. Although HIFEM+ technology causes Supramaximal contractions this should not be painful.
If at any point in time you are feeling discomfort or pain, tell your clinician and they will reduce the intensity of the treatment or stop the treatment altogether.
The average length of an Emsculpt Neo treatment is 30 minutes. Afterwards, you your muscles could feel fatigued in the area, and it is advised that you drink plenty of water for the next few days following treatment. There may be some redness around the treated area that will subside over time.
The areas that can be treated with Emsculpt Neo are the Biceps, Triceps, Abdomen, Inner thighs, Outer thighs, Front and Back thighs, Calves and Buttocks.
When used on the buttocks, the effect is similar to a posterior lift in that the buttocks are raised and strengthened instead of growing larger.
The Emsculpt Neo can also treat Flanks via a flank-specific, larger applicator.
Diastasis recti is a common condition in pregnant and postpartum women. It occurs when the rectus abdominis muscles separate during pregnancy from being stretched. The separation can make a woman’s stomach stick out or bulge months or years postpartum. In severe cases, the separation exceeds 2.7cm.
