If you are concerned by fine lines, large pores, uneven skin texture, and diffuse redness and acne scar treatment, a solution may be Laser Genesis. This non-invasive treatment is performed with the utilisation of our NdYag laser, that works by gently heating the upper dermis of the skin to stimulate collagen re-growth. Our Canberra Dermal Clinicians/Therapists are highly skilled in utilising Laser Genesis to achieve results for you.

The thing I love most about Laser Genesis is that pretty much anyone can have it! We regularly use it for rejuvenation, managing facial redness associated with rosacea, improving acne scarring and surgical scarring and brightening the skin before a special occasion.

How does Laser Genesis treatment work?

Laser Genesis works to coagulate the tiny vessels that cause diffuse redness. The beam of light is absorbed by blood, creating enough heat in order to coagulate the blood, resulting in a reduction of redness. Our skin’s immune system then sends in scavenger cells known as macrophages to remove these vessels.

What can I expect from Laser Genesis treatment?

Many clients have described the feeling of this treatment like “sitting in front of a heater”. Although hot at times most find it quite relaxing and comfortable. On average, a treatment takes 15 to 45 minutes depending on the area being treated.

Laser genesis is like ‘gym for the skin’ and so if you’re looking for a toning treatment to improve the overall skin tone and texture, this is it.

What preparation do I need before Laser Genesis?

A well prepared and supported skin will enhance your treatment results and so adopting an active skincare regime, prescribed by your Dermal Clinician/Therapist, prior to a course of treatments is recommended.

A full comprehensive skin analysis is required to determine your suitability to Laser Genesis and complementary active skin care products. This initial consultation will take approximately one hour with one of our qualified Dermal Clinicians/Therapists.

During your consultation your Dermal Clinician/Therapist will:

  • discuss your concerns with you
  • examine and assess the health and current condition of your skin
  • develop a personalised treatment plan including a tailored skin care regime designed to meet your specific concerns, lifestyle and budget.
  • provide an estimate of costs and time required to complete your treatment program.

Is there any post treatment care after Laser Genesis?

There is minimal to no downtime associated with this treatment and many clients return to work following a treatment. Most commonly a very slight redness to the skins surface is visible after the treatment.

Post treatment instructions:

  • Drink plenty of water for the rest of the day following treatment, due to possible dehydration.
  • Avoid the use of astringents, perfumes, deodorants, scented lotions on the area until redness has subsided.
  • Avoid the use of irritants in the area as well as skincare containing Vitamin A (retinol), Hydroxy Acids, talc based make up and other exfoliating products until redness has subsided. Your Dermal Specialist will recommend products to aid recovery.
  • Avoid direct and constant sun exposure for 4 weeks following your procedure.
  • Avoid fake tans and solariums for the duration for your treatments.
  • Ensure sun block is applied if participating in outdoor activities.
  • Quick warm showers are recommended.
  • Avoid activities that cause excessive perspiration as well as pools, spas and saunas for 48 hours post treatment.
  • Avoid tight clothing in the treated area for 48 hours after your treatment.

What can I expect regarding results from Laser Genesis?

Whilst results can vary and some patients may see improvements after 1 to 2 treatments, for most patients, Laser Genesis has accumulative benefits and results will be more noticeable after a series of treatments. On average, our clients attend a course of six sessions, every four weeks. We then recommend a maintenance treatment every 3-6 months or as required.

To enhance your results, IPL is a treatment that can be layered with Laser Genesis to help reduce redness and rejuvenate the skin.

Laser Genesis Risks

  • Some discomfort may be experienced during treatment
  • Redness/swelling is common and can last for a few hours to a few days. A hive-like reaction may occur with treatment of smaller vessels
  • Bruising may occur and usually lasts for about 1 week
  • Hair reduction may occur at treatment sites. This is usually temporary, but may be permanent
  • Laser and Pulsed Light procedures can result in redness, swelling, bruising, blistering, crusting, or flaking of the treated area, which may require one to three weeks to heal. Exposure to sunlight must be avoided 6-8 weeks pre and post treatment, this includes tanning beds. Skin infection is a rare possibility whenever a skin procedure is performed. Once the surface has healed, it may be pink or sensitive to the sun for an additional two to four weeks, or longer in some patients. Itching, irritation and acne breakouts may also occur
  • There is a slight possibility that the treated area can become either hypopigmented (lighter), or hyperpigmented (darker), in colour compared to the surrounding skin. This is usually temporary, but, on a
rare occasion, it may be permanent
  • Scarring is a rare occurrence, but it is a possibility if the skin’s surface is disrupted. To minimise the chances of scarring, it is IMPORTANT that you follow all pre and post-treatment instructions
  • Protective eyewear (shields) will be provided. It is important to keep these shields on at all times
during the treatment in order to protect your eyes from accidental laser and pulsed light exposure.

What is the approximate price range for Laser Genesis?

The cost depends on the area being treated. The face is a common area to treat at $355 per session. A smaller area such as only your nose or chin starts from $185 per treatment session. Our Dermal Clinicians/Therapists, who are qualified and trained in the use of lasers, can develop your treatment plan and discuss costs during your initial consultation.
