Brooke’s Dermal Sciences Degree – Part 5

Brooke, our Dermal Clinician who is currently studying her Bachelor of Dermal Sciences degree at Victoria University in Melbourne, made it through her first year of university! We are so proud of her. She is absorbing so much knowledge and improving her skills to provide great results for her clients!

What was the most recent subject about?

Laser Principles and Safety

What did you enjoy learning the most in that subject?

I enjoyed learning about the physics related to lasers, the interactions of light based treatments with skin tissue and structures, and the processes associated with these treatments. It has enhanced my appreciation and respect for the type of power these machines posses and just how powerful they are!

What was the hardest thing about this last subject/ studying?

With it coming to the end of the year, keeping motivated was my main issue at this point, but I made it 😊

What did you learn that was an eye opener/ amazing/ really interesting?

I learnt how unregulated laser use is in Australia and how every state in Australia has different laws and regulations associated with laser operation. It is so important to have the appropriate training when using these devices as if used without appropriate training and understanding of the technology it can actually be very unsafe in the wrong hands.

How will it help you in your Dermal Clinician work?

This subject will help me as a Dermal Clinician by boosting my understanding of the tissue and light interaction, and the appropriate use of lasers in a safe and efficient manner.
