Augmentation
The ability to enhance breast size and shape can allow women to gain new confidence and satisfaction with their body. Patients may choose breast augmentation to repair breast asymmetry, return breasts to their natural fullness following breast-feeding, or to enlarge small breasts.
Augmentation surgery is performed under general anaesthetic, and patients remain in hospital overnight. Patients undertaking this procedure need to plan an overnight stay in hospital and one week off work following surgery. All patients are strongly encouraged to wear a surgical compression garment for up to six weeks and to refrain from physical exercise and contact sport during this time.
Breast augmentation is a major life decision and should not be entered into without careful thought and planning.
Reduction
Women with large breasts often experience neck and back pain, headaches, shoulder grooving, and rashes under the breasts. Larger breasted women may also have difficulty participating in sports or finding clothes that fit well. Breast reduction can alleviate these problems as well as improving the appearance of the breasts.
Breast reduction is performed under general anaesthetic. Patients undertaking this procedure need to plan for two nights in hospital and will need two weeks off work following surgery. All patients are strongly encouraged to wear a surgical compression garment for up to six weeks and to refrain from physical exercise and contact sport during this time.
Reconstruction
Breast cancer is a devastating illness. Life saving surgery can be disfiguring and lead to serious loss of self-esteem. Reconstructive surgery not only replaces the tissue that has been removed but can also improve the overall appearance of both breasts.
Reconstruction surgery is performed under general anaesthetic. Patients undertaking this procedure need to plan for up to five nights in hospital and will need two weeks off work following surgery.
