Our Philosophy

‘Our philosophy is to provide excellence in dermal treatments, service and support. We offer ethical, honest and personalised service to each patient. Our greatest satisfaction comes from seeing people walk away with a new self-confidence.’ – Dr Taylor.

Dr Taylor is committed to providing the Canberra community with excellence in medical care and skin care treatments, and to this end has established the purpose built CAPS Clinic, which provides affordable dermal treatments, along cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery.  My Genesis is Canberra’s leading skin care clinic, supported by the best technology and techniques.

The My Genesis Team is trained to ensure you receive a confidential and professional service throughout all phases of your journey with us.

Your My Genesis Journey

We’ve made your first steps to rejuvenating your skin as simple as 1, 2, 3.  The below steps outline our consultation process, which is the start of your My Genesis Journey.

Firstly, make an appointment at the clinic via email, phone or in person.  Our contact details are available here.

Free parking is available on site at The CAPS Clinic.  Our reception is located on Level 1 (upstairs).  It is advised to arrive 15 minutes before your consultation to complete paper work.

You will be greeted by your Dermal Clinician in the reception area and escorted through to a consultation room.  During your initial consultation you will be thoroughly assessed and given the opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have.

Your Dermal Clinician will advise you of your options and discuss each in detail.  A test patch may be performed if a Laser or Pulsed Light treatment is deemed appropriate to address your concern.

On completion of your consultation we will provide you with an obligation-free personalised treatment plan. This will include a timeline for your treatments and a quote of costs involved.  The purpose of an initial consultation is to equip you, the patient, with the knowledge necessary to make an informed decision in regards to the process of addressing your concern.  A decision does not need to be made on the day as we understand that factors such as lifestyle, time frame, work commitments and social down time may well have an impact on your choice.

Professional Qualifications & Training

All our Dermal Clinicians have completed a Bachelors Degree in Dermal Therapies (BHSc) from Victoria University.  The degree covers, in great detail, subjects such as laser and light therapies, laser physics, nutrition, dermal science, anatomy and physiology of the skin, peeling procedures, lymphatic drainage, scar management, wound management, ethics, law and research.

The CAPS Clinic ensures that all staff are leaders in their field.  This degree is only offered by Victoria University in Melbourne. Despite this, CAPS have sponsored a number of their staff to travel to-and-from Melbourne on a weekly basis to take part in face to face lectures and hands on practical learning.

The CAPS Clinic and My Genesis now boast the most training and professionally qualified team of any skin care clinic in Canberra.  However, with a belief in continual education, our staff attend clinical forums, workshops and international webinars regularly throughout the year to maintain a leading insight on advances in this ever changing industry.

Accreditation

The Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians (ASDC) is an exclusive organisation representing Dermal Clinicians both nationally and internationally. The aim of the ASDC is to advocate on behalf of the dermal industry and the public to maintain high standards of safety and clinical scope of practice. They represent and provide support to qualified and ethical practitioners offering non surgical cosmetic procedures, pre and post operative therapy and the clinical management of dermal and scar conditions.

The ASDC works through a number of ways:

  • Continual education of members through conference, clinical workshops, lectures and scientific presentations;
  • Networking amongst members, allied health care professionals and medical associations;
  • To provide representation, leadership and support to graduates of the Degree – Bachelor of Health Science – Clinical Dermal Therapies;
  • To assist in the dissemination of new knowledge pertaining to all aspects of paramedical, cosmetic applications and remedial therapy;
  • To encourage research based therapy and patient management to achieve optimum clinical outcomes.
